ABOUT NUTRITIONAL THERAPY

Nutritional therapy takes an evidence-based and holistic approach to health and well-being. Practitioners combine expert, up-to-date understanding of nutrition science and physiology with a deep appreciation of the unique biochemistry, distinct health goals and particular nutritional needs of the individual sitting in front of them.

There is no one-size-fits-all protocol or treatment because we consider the whole person, not just the symptoms or disease. It is this truly personalised approach that sets us apart, enabling our clients to achieve optimum health and vitality – not simply an absence of disease.

There is no denying that our physical and mental health – now and in the future – are profoundly influenced by what we eat and how we live.

Nutritional therapists work collaboratively with clients, analysing their symptoms, entire health history, test results, diet and lifestyle to pinpoint the root causes of health issues. Put simply, we address the factors that contributed to, triggered, and are perpetuating the problem, rather than putting a “sticking plaster” over symptoms.

Nutritional therapy can help manage a variety of chronic health concerns, including gut and digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, mental health problems, autoimmune conditions, and can expertly support those seeking to lose weight.

But why wait until you are already sick or struggling to see a nutritional therapist? Practitioners regularly work with those keen to optimise their nutrition, boost energy, enhance performance, reduce risk of chronic disease, promote longevity, and generally look and feel their best.

PHILOSOPHY

Eating should be enjoyable

Food nourishes body and soul. Cultivating a healthy relationship with it, learning to eat mindfully and intuitively, is key to looking and feeling our best. Diets don’t work because they focus on rules, deprivation, and tasteless and unsatisfying  food for a “quick fix”.  Self-awareness, self-compassion, and a positive body image, allow us to make nourishing choices from a place of self-care rather than punishment

Abundance not deprivation

A healthy diet is a diverse diet. Most people should not be counting calories, macros or eliminating whole food groups! Our gut bacteria thrive on diversity, and the bigger the range of foods we eat, the more varied and diverse the range of nutrients we consume. Most of the women I see don’t need to eat less, they just need to eat right – and often more!

Small consistent changes add up

Most health plans assume we can make massive changes to our diet and lifestyle all in one go,  purely on the basis of “willpower” and motivation. This approach is almost always unsustainable . I show you how small changes, done consistently, are not just easier to maintain, but accumulate and lead to big changes down the line

You don't need to be Perfect

Besides, the “perfect” diet simply does not exist. The all-or-nothing mindset keeps so many women stuck in an unhealthy cycle of “being good” and “falling off the bandwagon” on repeat. By simply choosing food that is close to nature (i.e. not ultra-processed!) at least 80% of the time – and learning how to make it taste amazing – it makes it much easier to maintain a healthy weight, body and mind

It's not just about the Food

Wellbeing is about so much more than just the food we eat (though that’s a great place to start!). I offer a comprehensive 360 degree lifestyle assessment. Movement, enough quality sleep, a strong sense of community, connection, meaning and purpose are all key facets of our health. If we are lacking in any one of these areas, our health can really suffer

I understand because I have been there... 7 years ago, it was me sat at home, scouring the internet for another way, a solution, hope...

TESTIMONIALS

“I’ve been working with Harriet for approximately 5 months on my gut healing journey. When I came to her I was in a mess, struggling with gut symptoms and a lack of direction. I was on too many supplements and she instantly took me off them and showed a clear way forward. She did her best to keep costs down and minimise testing to meet my budget. I have a history of fatigue, IBS and methane Sibo. I have felt confident in Harriet’s knowledge and I’m doing much better! My symptoms are significantly reduced, I have so much more food freedom and I’ve noticed an improvement in my energy levels. My case is quite complex so there’s no quick fix, but I feel positive about the path ahead. I can recommend working with Harriet on you gut journey!”

“I was immediately struck by Harriet’s kind and caring reply to my initial enquiry which gave me confidence that she would try her best for me and so I signed up. Best decision I made! She really took the time to listen to me and what I needed. I was given a completely personalised plan all delivered in clear, easy to follow steps at exactly the right time so I didn’t feel overwhelmed by too many changes at once. She even went above and beyond in telling me about different food products and where to buy them and also recommending books to help my understanding. Harriet is extremely knowledgeable and I completely trust her advice. For the first time I’m confident in a healthcare professional knowing how to help me and I’m definitely seeing improvements. I can’t recommend Harriet and Illumineat highly enough.”
